Child Support Withholding Orders and Workers’ Compensation
On June 6, 2017, Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy signed legislation (H.B. 7037) to improve income withholding for child support. Under the legislation, when an obligor makes a claim for workers’ compensation benefits, the employer must include a copy of any order for withholding it received with its first report of occupational illness or injury to its workers’ compensation benefits carrier. Subsequently, the employer’s benefits carrier must then withhold funds pursuant to the withholding order and pay any sums withheld as required.
The law is effective January 1, 2018.
